In his book, Jürg Düblin sheds light on architect Hans Schmidt's time in the Soviet Union. The book's design reflects his austere, linear architecture. The dominant colour red stands for the fighter of modernism and for politics as the foundation of his architecture. The text is set in the Kazimir font designed by Russian designers. Excerpt from the jury report of the Stiftung Buchkunst: ‘Is the astonishing freshness of this book today due to the timelessness of classical modernism? Or to the ability of good design – beyond its function, like a visual language – to express meaning through form?’ The book was honoured as one of the Most Beautiful German Books of 2020 by the Stiftung Buchkunst.
