The House That Kahn Built
The National Assembly Building in Dhaka by Louis Kahn
Photographed by Kashef Chowdhury

2025
We staged Kashef Chowdhury's photo essay on Louis Kahn's monumental National Assembly Building in Dhaka, which sits spectacularly on a huge expanse of water, like a play. The book begins with a foreword by Kashef Chowdhury and ends with an afterword by Juhani Pallasmaa. These two essays on black-colored paper at the beginning and end of the book function like the prologue and epilogue of a performance, before the curtain rises and after it falls again. The photos bring light to the stage. In Georg Sidler's image editing, the pictures stand out clearly without distracting text or page numbers. The book was awarded the DAM Architectural Book Award 2025.
