The approximately 3,500-year-old bronze hand of Prêles is the oldest bronze object in the shape of a human body part in Europe. It comes from the grave of a man who was buried on the Jura heights around 1400 BC. The Kyburg gauntlet was part of a suit of armor from the 14th century. It is a finger glove for the right hand with individual scale-like plates from the heyday of knighthood. The two EUROPA stamps on the theme of national archaeological finds, which we designed on behalf of Swiss Post, show the bronze hand and the gauntlet on a silver and bronze-colored background. The embossing enhances the three-dimensionality of the two motifs. For the first-day cover, we combined the two sites in a silver-bronze drawing.
